Cougar Ridge Subdivision Brings New Growth to Whispering Pines

Rivermist Excavating is proud to have served as Prime Contractor for the Cougar Ridge Subdivision, a new 11-lot residential development located north of Kamloops in the Whispering Pines area on lands owned by Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band.

The project involved the complete civil construction of the subdivision, including roadway construction, underground utilities, drainage infrastructure, and erosion protection systems designed to support the challenging hillside terrain and seasonal runoff conditions present throughout the site.

From the outset, careful planning and collaboration were essential to the project’s success. The subdivision is situated on sloped terrain with multiple natural drainage paths crossing through the development area. Managing water movement while preserving long-term slope stability became a key focus throughout construction.

To address these conditions, Rivermist installed engineered rip rap drainage swales complete with culverts and headwalls to safely convey runoff through the subdivision. Geosynthetics were incorporated beneath the rip rap systems to improve soil separation, enhance drainage performance, and provide additional long-term stability and erosion protection within the drainage corridors.

As Prime Contractor, Rivermist coordinated and completed all major civil works for the subdivision, including:

• roadway construction and grading
• underground water and utility installation
• drainage infrastructure
• culverts and concrete headwalls
• erosion control systems
• rip rap channel construction
• site servicing and overall project coordination

A key component of the project was maintaining close collaboration with the Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band throughout all phases of construction. Rivermist worked closely with the community to ensure First Nations cultural considerations remained an important part of project planning and execution, while also supporting opportunities to give back to the local community during construction.

The Cougar Ridge Subdivision represents another successful infrastructure project delivered in partnership with Indigenous communities throughout the BC Interior. Through strong communication, technical problem solving, and a commitment to quality construction, the project has helped create new residential opportunities within the Whispering Pines area while respecting the natural landscape and cultural significance of the site.
