Tagish Street and Cree Road Utilities Bring New Servicing to Local Businesses

Rivermist Excavating was selected by Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) through a competitive Request for Proposals to complete the Tagish Street and Cree Road Utilities project in Kamloops. Over about 21 weeks, our team installed a new gravity sanitary sewer system, an upgraded water main, and new drainage swales serving the businesses along both roads.

Work began by daylighting existing utilities. This included the water main at Chilcotin Road, where the alignment had to be confirmed before the new sewer could go in. Our crews realigned the existing main, then installed the sanitary trunk line from Chilcotin Road to the end of Cree Road. A dedicated service crew followed behind to bring connections to each property, and most connections were carried right through to the buildings. The new 250 mm water main and hydrants came next. Tying in at Cree Road first allowed each business to be switched over to the new system while the existing main stayed in service.

Keeping businesses open was a priority throughout. A single-lane alternating traffic pattern kept Tagish Street moving, and access was maintained during the Cree Road closure. A full-time water truck and pre-pulverized asphalt kept dust down for neighbouring businesses.

Fast Facts:

  • 763 m of 200 mm sanitary sewer main, 9 manholes, and 22 service connections with inspection chambers
  • 456 m of 250 mm PVC water main, 4 fire hydrant assemblies, and tie-ins at Chilcotin Road and Cree Road
  • About 5,700 m² of road reconstruction and more than 1,000 tonnes of hot-mix asphalt
  • About 1,370 m³ of swale excavation, 620 m³ of drain rock, and 1,900 m² of hydroseeding

The scope grew during construction and the team adapted along the way, delivering reliable municipal servicing to the businesses along Tagish Street and Cree Road and supporting future growth in the area.
