Sun Peaks PZ1 Water Main Looping and Alder Estates Subdivision

The Alder Estates project was completed alongside the PZ1 Water Main Looping project amid Sun Peaks’ limited construction season. These projects enhanced the resort community’s municipal infrastructure while laying the groundwork for future residential and commercial development.
To complete this work within the limited timeframe, the development of 16 new residential lots through extensive earthmoving, utility installations, and road construction was required. Crews excavated and replaced 22,000 cubic metres of unsuitable native soil with structural fill, installed 600 metres of twin water mains, and laid 310 metres of stormwater piping. To stabilize the hillside, they connected 300 metres of weeping tile into a newly constructed storm sewer system, ensuring long-term site stability.
Additional work included rerouting a critical sanitary main and extending a 250mm C900 water main to support future staff housing. The team also constructed 2,450 square metres of paved roadway, installed 750 metres of curb and gutters, and built a new parking lot using imported structural fill. Crossing an actively flowing creek required environmentally sensitive work—damming, bypass pumping, and careful collaboration with environmental consultants—to preserve local ecosystems.

Equipped with GPS-enabled excavators, Rivermist’s skilled crews worked efficiently, completing this ambitious project ahead of schedule despite Sun Peaks’ challenging alpine environment. This success has helped strengthen Rivermist’s partnership with the community, paving the way for future projects.
