Simpcw First Nation – Roads and Drainage Improvements
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Rivermist was engaged to reconstruct roadways and drainage infrastructure in the Coal Creek and Kenkeknem neighbourhoods of the Simpcw First Nation. The project required careful coordination around 90 homes and a seniors’ complex. Work included culvert replacement, drainage ditch upgrades, water service connections, driveway and boulevard reconstruction, and full road resurfacing. Rivermist installed over 500 metres of 450 mm and 60 metres of 600 mm culvert, along with eight headwalls. More than 2.1 kilometres of paved roadway were constructed. Several homes were also connected to a new water main previously installed by Rivermist under an earlier contract, further enhancing community infrastructure.

COORDINATION AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
Rivermist worked closely with Simpcw First Nation administration and individual residents to ensure the project was delivered respectfully and with minimal disruption. Our team maintained open communication throughout construction, scheduling work around resident needs and ensuring safety and accessibility at all times.
PROJECT OUTCOME
The project successfully transformed previously gravel roads into paved surfaces and introduced an overland stormwater management system capable of handling heavy spring freshets common in the region. The result is a safer, more resilient roadway network that supports long-term community growth and environmental protection.
